I have enjoyed your rambles, and appreciate your letting me ramble on here.I'm not much for playing the lit ball game, prefer rambling in the woods and think that bristling over being called a "nature writer"is silly-ultimately all writing is some kind of nature(human,wo/man vs.nature,technology,divinity).We write about our nature, and the nature of existence, from the point of view of parts of nature because that's who and where we are.Even the un-natural is so dependent on nature as to be part of it as well.As Natalie says"massaging meaning out of random events and places"is the work;the words are the bricks these castles in the air are made of .Ordinary day to day clay sounds and straw symbols baked in the sun of consciousness and handled by men who are both laborers and architects.
Thanks Tommy for stopping by and sorry I was so busy w/work-I do hope to meet for a fruity drink one day, till then a virtual "cheers"to all.

I particularly like the dating service. I chuckled when the author attempted to link two eco warrior priestesses in one series of comments, back when he was slogging through the marsh wondering, "do these binoculars make me look fat?".

Then I learned that another "commenter", whose contributions I enjoyed (really, I'd have to say I enjoyed most of the comments), lived about a mile from my house behind a gas station. So I stopped by one day and said hello! Small world?? Or maybe we're all connected, we just don't know how to recognize the threads, yet.

I've been a closet reader all this time (just not one to post comments), but congrats on the new book. Likewise on what Natalie said, I like the mixture of eco and literary. I especially turn to your blog as I get pulled away from writing by the insistent pull of teaching work, and am thus reminded to run away to my own hermit cave to write like a maniac. Thanks for teaching by example.

Anything you write is well worth the time to read. I check regularly to see what is new. I would be thrilled to see some more "Talking to Ghosts" but will settle happily for whatever is on the screen.
Congrats on the anniversary and on the new book.

I think reading the thoughts of intelligent and insightful people, not to mention wonderful writers, is always a rare treat no matter what subject they are speaking on.

I enjoyed the posts from the Gulf - I loved being able to get the bird's eyeview of what was really happening instead of relying on Corporate News. I also love the more personal pieces like Bill's hair essay and Dave's piece about his Dad's Kid of the Year Award.

So my point is this....right whatever you want and we will be here to read and enjoy it.

Congratulations on the book deal! It's been a treat to read your posts over the summer, and it'll be even better to read your account in book form (from a MN publisher, no less).

On that note, I like reading these posts for the combination of writing life and eco stuff. Writing about ecological issues means having the courage and initiative to go outside, travel, look around, talk to humans, sport the Unabomber look for a while. My writing life is prone to inertia and indifference; telling me to nail my shoes to the floor or write three pages every morning doesn't do the trick. Observing, massaging meaning out of random events and places, and reading accounts of other writers' eco-journeys keeps me interested enough in the world to want to write about it.

We should have one of our "virtual" get-togethers before I come down to NC for the real thing. Looking forward to it. Keep up the great posts. Google Analytics?!
